    Good stuff. Your advice for turn 1 does go counter to other tutorials all advising late apex. I suppose momentum vs HP cars will factor in?

      Tbh not really - that's where almost any pro drivers apexes whether they are driving a GT3 car, Prototype, Spec Miata, etc. The road is slightly cambered in there so that's where the grip is. Just need to hold the apex for a longer period of time.

    Trail braking in and of itself is not dangerous, it's the trees, ditches, cliffs, walls, and all the other things waiting for you off the track when you screw it up! Sorry but I couldn't resist that. Excellent video

    I am not sure if this is a more or less advanced technique, but I only look at apexes and exits, no matter how far away they are. The braking point and turn in point are done with my peripheral.

    that's my kinda technique too, but after trying both in GT7, it feels like not too much difference between these techniques since turn 3 is not far enough, exit speed doesn't make a big difference, the v shape technique has a slightly later exit with faster speed, but by the braking point at turn 3, two different ways kinda evens out.

    That third one is super counter intuitive to me. My instinct is to help the car rotate with throttle, so lifting seems like something I would struggle with there.

    The length of the yellow doesn't make sense. You should be off the brakes by the time you are at the point of tightest radius turning (i.e. apex).

    • @BlayzeCoaching
      @BlayzeCoaching 8 місяців тому

      Yellow line is anything from very light brakes to coasting -- the transition period (obviously it's a range depending on the car type). In many cars you are only starting your acceleration when you approach that second apex. Also, tightest radius turning isn't the apex -- the apex is where you get to the closest point to the inside of the corner. Two apexes in this corner.

  • @shredandenjoy7311
    @shredandenjoy7311 8 місяців тому

    I was taught and my exit speeds concur: Don't touch the first apex. You're making the turn tighter than necessary (decreasing radius) at the second more important apex which will give you better speed out.

    • @BlayzeCoaching
      @BlayzeCoaching 8 місяців тому

      Obviously this depends on a little bit on your specific car - for example IndyCar's do miss that first apex. But, in 95% of cars I've driven you hit that first apex because it allows you to roll more apex speed and it shouldn't influence exit speeds. The fact that hitting it influences yours leads me to question your car angle or what happens after that first apex after you hit it, sounds like something is just a little off there. Hard to say without seeing your video - a great example on why coaching needs to be personalized :).

  • @UltimaBuilder
    @UltimaBuilder 10 місяців тому

    Almost right (for rear wheel drive cars, if racecraft isn't a factor). The shape of the line through a double-apex corner is equally determined by entry speed, braking ability, cornering grip, and finally power-to-weight. Power only controls your track-out path to exit the corner (throttle-steer). Braking and cornering abilities control your corner entry, turn-in and trail-braking. With every car really, you balance turning ability with ability to accelerate. Less turn-in cornering ability (more understeer or plow), make pointier turns. More horsepower (power-to-weight), more throttle-steer available on exit and faster to recover lost momentum. Heavier high-HP cars, like Vipers, Mustangs, and Vettes are "point & squirt" type (pointier corners). If any double-apex is put into a CAD system, the perfect arc spline can be drawn using 4 points to lay down the shortest path (turn-in, apex-1, apex-2, and track-out). How far out your apogee is (towards the outside of the track, after apex-1) will be determined by all of the factors above. Things change quickly for front-wheel or all-wheel drive cars, or for traffic (racecraft). The Laguna T-2 double-apex corner presents a fantastic passing opportunity. You overtake under braking on the inside, go in hot for a pointy turn. The other car attempt to retake on the inside, but you accelerate and stay right, while the other cars fights to get left for T-3. You are slightly slower through T-3, but now have the inside track and position on the more important apex.

    I’m only racing in sim, but I am curious if you could share your thoughts about when to defend and when to let the other driver pass. I’m still at a very amateur level, but I’m only occasionally defending. For example - when someone (on my lap and in my class) is seconds faster per lap I’m going to let them by with a lift - still maintaining my line of course. I also let drivers who are “erratic” by as they will likely take themselves out. This leaves closely matched (in terms of lap time) drivers or drivers I have just passed. Is this a good strategy? Should I change anything?

    • @BlayzeCoaching
      @BlayzeCoaching Рік тому

      Hey Chad! Great question and you are thinking about things exactly right. If someone is much faster than you, let them by (without losing too much time and stay predictable) and then try to follow and learn from them.

    So losing focus is a cue to refocus. Makes sense. In the old days a professional racing driver was one who would get better under stress. Perhaps this is a partial explanation for that.
